Bonus Abuse
Behaviour casinos define as exploiting bonus terms - opening multiple accounts, depositing only to claim a bonus, or using restricted strategies. Voids winnings and triggers account closure.

C

Cashback
A percentage of net losses returned to the player, usually weekly or monthly. The most genuinely valuable bonus type because there is no wagering requirement on the cashback itself at most operators.
Cooling-Off Period
A short break from a casino account (typically 24 hours to 6 weeks) that blocks deposits but does not formally self-exclude. Reversible on request after the period ends.
Curaçao Licence
Offshore gambling licence issued by the government of Curaçao. Lower consumer-protection requirements than UKGC or MGA - common in crypto-first and global casinos.

D

DGE
Division of Gaming Enforcement (New Jersey) - the state regulator for licensed online casinos serving NJ residents.

E

Expected Value (EV)
The statistically expected long-run outcome of a bet or session, calculated as (probability × payoff) summed across all possible outcomes. House-edge games carry negative EV; cleared no-wagering bonuses can carry positive EV. Full guide →

F

Free Spins
A bonus type giving the player a fixed number of slot spins at a set bet size, on specific games. Winnings are usually subject to wagering - or paid as cash on no-wagering offers.

G

GAMSTOP

H

I

IBAS
Independent Betting Adjudication Service - the dispute resolution body UKGC-licensed operators must submit to. Final binding decisions for player vs operator disputes.

K

KYC
Know Your Customer - identity verification required by regulators. Typically a government ID plus a proof-of-address document. Triggered at signup at UKGC casinos; at withdrawal thresholds at most crypto casinos.

L

Live Dealer
Real human dealers operating physical cards or wheels in a studio, streamed to players in HD. Evolution, Pragmatic Live and Playtech run the three major networks. House edge identical to RNG equivalents.

M

Martingale
Betting system that doubles the wager after every loss, intending to recover prior losses on the next win. Mathematically broken - table limits and bankroll constraints make ruin certain in long enough play.
Max Cashout
A cap on how much a player can withdraw from a bonus, regardless of how much is won. Common on free-spin and no-deposit bonuses. Caps below £100 should be considered marketing, not value.
MGA

O

P

Pokies
Australian and New Zealand term for slot machines or video slots. Functionally identical to slots elsewhere.
Progressive Jackpot
A jackpot that grows with every losing bet on a linked slot or network of slots until it is won. Mega Moolah, Mega Fortune and Divine Fortune carry seven-figure jackpots.
Provably Fair
A cryptographic method (typically SHA-256) used by crypto casinos to let players verify game outcomes were genuinely random. Server seed is published hashed before each round; player can verify post-hoc.

R

RNG
Random Number Generator - the algorithm producing game outcomes at non-live casino games. Audited by independent test houses (eCOGRA, iTech Labs, BMM Testlabs) at every licensed operator.
RTP
Return To Player - the long-run percentage of wagered money paid back to players. A 96% RTP slot returns roughly £96 per £100 wagered over millions of spins. Equal to 100% minus house edge. Full guide →

U

V

Variance
How widely outcomes deviate from the average. High-variance slots produce rare big wins and frequent small losses; low-variance slots produce frequent small wins. Same RTP, different feel.
VIP Programme
Casino loyalty scheme offering personalised bonuses, cashback, faster withdrawals and a dedicated account manager to high-stake players. Invitation-only at most operators.

W

Wagering Requirement
How many times a bonus (or bonus + deposit) must be wagered before winnings become withdrawable. Industry standard is 30-40x bonus; below 25x is genuinely good, above 50x is very difficult to clear.
Wild / Scatter
Slot symbols - Wild substitutes for any other symbol to complete a winning line; Scatter pays out regardless of line position and often triggers bonus features.
